Mariano, if not the first to paint this theme, was one of the first. It has been suggested that he borrowed the theme from a painting of a campesino holding cala lilies by Diego Rivera. In any case, the theme became very popular. Mariano and many other artists have painted countless versions of the theme in different sizes, changing only the huipile and type of flowers. Mariano’s paintings are of higher quality than the other artists, but the theme has been painted thousands of times by Mariano alone. Si Mariano no fue el primero para pintar este tema, el fue uno de los primeros. Se ha sugerido que tomó prestado el tema de una pintura de una campesina con lirios cala por Diego Rivera. En cualquier caso, el tema se hizo muy popular. Mariano y muchos otros artistas han pintado innumerables versiones del tema en diferentes tamaños, cambiando sólo la huipil y el tipo de flores. Las pinturas de Mariano son de mayor calidad que los otros artistas pero solamente por Mariano el tema ha sido pintado miles de veces.
