| Emilio González Morales, the middle of three brothers who
are artists, has been painting for around twenty-five years. He
has always wanted to find his own place as an artist. He has
never stooped to doing production work for the tourist
galleries, even though he could easily have earned a better
income. His older brother, Juan Fermín, came up with the idea of
painting from a bird’s-eye point of view. Emilio, trying to find
another original point of view, came up with the idea of an
ant’s-eye view of things, or as he calls it in Spanish, vista de
hormiga. Little by little he began creating patterns out of
people and objects, until the paintings resemble the patterns of
a Busby Berkley dance. Emilio’s ability to make wonderful
patterns out of his subject matter, rather than the vista de
hormiga, is what defines him as a Tz’utuhil artist. |
Emilio González Morales, el segundo de tres hermanos
artistas, ha pintado durante veinticinco años. Siempre ha
querido encontrar su propio lugar como artista. A pesar de que
pudiera ganar mejores ingresos, dejó de producir trabajos para
galerías de arte turísticas. Su hermano mayor, Juan Fermín,
surgió con la idea de pintar desde el punto de vista de un
pájaro. Emilio con la intención de encontrar otro punto de vista
original se le ocurrió trabajar desde el punto de vista de una
hormiga. Poco a poco inició creando patrones de las personas y
objetos hasta que sus pinturas se asemejaran a los esquemas de
un baile de Busby Berkley. Su habilidad para crear maravillosos
patrones de su sujeto, en vez de su técnica de vista de hormiga,
es lo que lo define como un artista Tz´utujil. |
